Who is The Woke Villager?

Hi, fam! I’m Lulu Fogarty, an actress / activist / educator living in Brooklyn, NY!

I was born and raised in New York City’s Greenwich Village by parents and a community which instilled in me the responsibility to call out injustice where I see it and to fight for human rights and a more human world.

The Greenwich Village of my youth was wild and colorful!

I was surrounded by outspoken artists who showed me nothing but love and encouraged me to shine. I was always included in the conversation about women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, AIDS activism, immigrant, and civil rights.

Originally, I thought The Woke Villager would be a fun place to share NYC stories and organizational tips, gush about crystals and random metaphysical stuff, and experiment with my new hobby–hand lettering. I would talk about mindfulness and kindness in action. I would discuss my thoughts on social responsibility and bravery. There was always room for politics and polemics.

And then the 2016 election happened. Racist, sexual predator, islamophobic, homophobic, xenophobic, ableist, misogynistic Trump is actually the president.

If you’re struggling to find meaningful ways to take action and fight for human rights, you’re not alone. I don’t have all the answers. I do have some resources that can get you going on the path to find your own! And, practically speaking, I have the expertise to help you organize your personal life and space so that you stop making excuses, get out there and change some things!
